Functional Manager – Hardware Solutions Group (Farmington Hills, MI)

 We are a diversified team headquartered in Farmington Hills, MI.  Most of our staff are technical in nature and have been with the company for many years by finding new and exciting projects from a vast array of clients and applications they get to work with. 

We seek a talented Functional Manager of our Hardware Solutions Group to be responsible for the supervision of the assembly and integration of automated test equipment for the Military/Aerospace, Medical Device, Consumer Electronics, and Automotive Industries. This position requires exceptional technical aptitude, strong supervisory skills and the ability to work within a fast-paced environment. Major areas of responsibility include quotation development, resource management, sub-contractor management, assembly shop management and communications with other managers.  The successful candidate will have experience managing financial, schedule and quality risks on program delivery.  The position will have high visibility to senior management. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working supervisor of 4-8 skilled trades personnel
  • Assign resources to projects and maximize resource utilization
  • Estimate work and develop schedules and plan manpower
  • Sequence and manage schedules to hit key milestones
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics for translation into finished products
  • Oversee subcontractor management
  • Decide in-house versus outsourced design and fabrication based on risk, margins and resource availability
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to shop personnel
  • Work collaboratively with purchasing and engineering
  • Assist in the establishment of pricing and bid proposals
  • Employ creative problem-solving techniques
  • Ensure a high level of quality across all builds
  • Direct the mechanical design team
  • Direct procurement and oversee project asset management
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by management

 

Basic Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 5-10 years of experience in a small-scale manufacturing facility with emphasis on productivity and quality
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience of skilled trades personnel
  • Must have strong interpersonal and supervisory skills with the ability to monitor and direct skilled trades personnel
  • Possess technical skills for machining, assembly and wiring for computerized test equipment
  • Able to read mechanical, electrical and pneumatic schematics; able to translate the schematics into finished products.
  • Able to estimate workload, develop shop schedules and assess manpower requirements using mechanical, electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Able to manage multiple projects in the build shop based on milestone-driven project schedules
  • Able to manage BOMs and direct purchasing to ensure components are ordered and delivered in a timely manner to meet build schedules
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment with engineers, project managers and others
  • Able to be creative and react positively to problems as they arise during the build cycle
  • Have a positive attitude and work ethic along with a hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Strong customer interface skills
  • Excellent system engineering, electrical, mechanical, and test system integration background
  • Experience with automated test equipment, preferably including National Instrument platforms
  • Experience within Department of Defense/military, aerospace or medical industries preferred
  • Worked in IPT (Integrated Product Team) or shared resource organization
  • Familiar with I&T (Integration and Test) Methodologies
  • Experience working in a process-oriented environment (CMMI Level 3 organization)
  • Risk management astuteness, ability to identify and quantify project related risks
  • High level of concentration, alertness, and adaptability to change

 

Degree: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Physics, Math, etc.) required.

Management courses and/or degree or certification a plus.

  • Creating low-level drivers for various devices in LabVIEW
  • Creation and maintenance of test programs, frameworks and user interfaces
  • Further development of test bench solutions within the scope of customer-specific projects
  • Working on tasks in the field of autonomous driving with a team of experienced software developers
  • Support of the application developers during commissioning of the system (in-house/external at the customer)

Requirements / work experience

  • Completed studies in the field of computer science, electrical engineering or comparable qualification
  • At least 3 years of experience with LabVIEW
  • Knowledge of TestStand desirable

Commissioning Engineer (m/w/d) Measurement and Automation

Duties and responsibilities

The scope of duties includes participation in various projects and project teams in the development, setup, testing and commissioning of Konrad test systems. The creation of test applications and test plans using NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand will be a major part of your tasks.

Experience in mechanical and electrical measurement technology will form a solid basis. Knowledge of reading schematics and an affinity for using test software is a prerequisite, as is the ability to learn about constantly changing problems and technologies. A large part of the working time is spent at the customer's site and requires a high degree of willingness to travel.

Requirements / work experience

  • Degree in engineering (FH) or equivalent, or state-certified electrical engineer, specializing in electrical engineering/electronics
