UAV / Drone HIL System
with Camera Video Injection

About the cooperation
Konrad worked in partnership with a company to develop a Camera Video Injection HIL System for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)/Drones. The focus of the collaboration was to understand the unique challenges and deliver a flexible solution with a generic interface that can be utilised by the client‘s internal team.
Konrad was able to provide HiL rack design and build as well as driver-level Software development for the company‘s avionics and perception boards.
Project Scope
Challenge:
- The customer wanted to inject data from 2+ lidars and 4+ cameras into the ecu
- The perception board, in particular, required GMSL2 data injection using the NI 1487 cards and Konrad replay HiL expertise.
Objectives:
- Reduction of the total project cost for the design, procurement, assembly, build, and shipment
Solution
There will be a log file for each sensor to replay data when the server application receives start command. The test team would create a sensor log file for different scenarios to validate the ECU or edit the existing log file according to the requirements and replace the log file with files on the server before starting the replay.

Customer Benefit
- Konrad’s close collaboration with client’s engineering Team allowed us to dramatically reduce the total project cost for the design, procurement, assembly, build, and shipment of the first eleven HILSim systems.
- Because of our cooperation, the client’s personnel was freed up to focus on their core competencies, which resulted in a reduced time to market.
Our know-how for project implementation
The client can now reference 3 years of productive co-development with Konrad Technologies and has first-hand experience with our project management, design, development, engineering, and build teams, providing confidence in the success of the future projects. To date, Konrad has delivered 37 replicate systems (racks).
